Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) is a colorless, transparent liquid at room temperature, insoluble in water but readily soluble in ethanol and diethyl ether. It is an excellent high-octane gasoline additive and anti-knock agent, primarily used to enhance the octane rating and anti-knock performance of gasoline. Additionally, MTBE has low vapor pressure and excellent evaporation properties, giving it good volatility and combustion performance in gasoline.
